New fully dedicated VR rollercoaster integrates 30 second photo opportunity for the ultimate #SpaceSelfie.

Picsolve, the leading image capture partner for the leisure and entertainment industry, has partnered with the Alton Towers Resort on its new Virtual Reality (VR) rollercoaster 'Galactica' to create a space-themed immersive queue-line experience that turns guests into space tourists.

As the world’s first rollercoaster fully dedicated to virtual reality, Galactica presents a challenge to traditional on-ride photography as the the guest’s face is obstructed by the headset. However, with a mere 30-40 seconds to capture a photograph before guests have to move on, queue line photos must be quick yet impactful.

Our close partnership with Picsolve guarantees Galactica riders have an unforgettable photo moment that is instant yet memorable. Incorporating Picsolve’s DigiPass into our offering also provides the Alton Towers Resort with a full digital integration and unrivalled guest experience.

Our unique photo capture point provides just this, allowing up to six guests at a time to take ‘space selfies’ simply by placing their head inside a round window aperture. Six hidden DSLR cameras capture their headshot, which then appears under a space helmet to coincide with the futuristic theme. The photo capture point is presented to the guest as part of their ‘pre-flight check in,’ seamlessly fitting in with their journey into space through the VR experience.

To redeem their photograph, guests are given a printed ticket with a barcode that is unique to them. The ticket self-associates guests with their “#SpaceSelfie,” which they can collect in either print or digitally copy at the dedicated retail store. Guests can also collect their photos with DigiPass, an ‘all inclusive’ offering in which guests can have unlimited access to Galactica and all other Alton Towers esort rides for an affordable one-off price.
